Machinae Supremacy

Now for one of my favorite bands of all time, Machinae Supremacy. This is a swedish metal group that renders some of their sound through a SID device, basically its like old school video game music + progressive metal. One of their best songs, IMO, is this 12 minute long epic instrumental that showcases all the different flavors they mix. They style is a seamlessly blend of genres from punk to rock to metal to chiptunes to some other shit. Also lolbritneyspearscover.

Their older stuff is available from the official site, click the webography button. Also look up jets'n'guns. It's a game they made and its awesome. (lolcrack)

2008 - Overworld

The Flashbulb

Alright, make sure you're sitting down cause this dude is a beast. Benn Jordan aka The Flashbulb aka some other shit aka some other other shit (seriously, this guy has like 7 aliases), is a genius. He does a strange combination of breakcore, ambient trance, and instrumental shit that combines into awesome soundscapes or something. Listen to this. Isn't that fucking awesome? I love this artist, from his earlier shit that is more electro heavy to his later predominantly chillout type stuff, every album is fantastic. Another must have for anyone I'd say.

Cage The Elephant

Recently an awesome game called Borderlands came out (check that shit out too), and as part of their marketing campaign they released a series of commercials that use the song "Ain't no rest for the wicked" by a group I'd never heard of called Cage the Elephant. Needless to say this shit sounds fucking awesome, so I looked them up and I have to say I am quite pleased with their self titled debut album. The southern influence in this rock band comes through with the guitar riffs and provides a nice change up from most of the shit that's on rock stations now. Like metallica. Fuck metallica.

Cage the Elephant (2008)

EDIT:
NEW ALBUM OUT, CHECK THIS SHIT OUT.
Thank You Happy Birthday (2011)

Dream Theater

For the first real post, I'm gonna bring up one of my favorite bands, Dream Theater. Ever since I've started listening to them I can't seem to get enough. All the members went to some fancy music school or other, and it shows. They play the shit out of their instruments and it melds together into an awesome sound. Each album has a slightly different sound to it as well which keeps the music sounding fresh (unlike some bands like Evergray that sound exactly the same always, but I'll get to them later). From the opera-esque album "Metropolis Pt, 2: Scenes from a Memory" to the heavier sounds of "Train of Thought" they always manage to sound fucking awesome. They also have a history of covering other bands, and while I'm not quite sure how I feel about that, as they have their own unique sound and when they apply it to other songs it doesn't always work out in my opinion, those shits are still beast. Listen to the medleys they arranged on "A Change of Seasons" if you don't believe me. I highly recommend everyone check them out.

EDIT: New DT album out and added. ADTOE is awesome.

Ok so..

I hate blogs in general, I don't care what these people have to say. However, blogs such as the one I intend for this to be are where I get most of my music from, I figure it's time to return the favor. That and I like to rant, and when it comes to the music I like I can go on for a while. So sit back, make yourself a proper drink, roll a blunt and allow me to enlighten you to the wonderful world of my music library.
